Below are commonly asked questions about Marks Point Preschool.

  • What age must my child be before they can start?

    Although we are a preschool with children aged 3- 6 years of age. We hold a license to enrol children 2 years and above. If vacancies arise we may offer younger children positions. 

  • How do I enrol my child?

    To enrol your child you can simply complete the online waiting list application or fill one in at the center and we will get in contact with you. Alternatively, you can call the preschool to discuss your childcare needs and/or schedule a time to visit.

  • How many days a week should I send my child?

    Most children attend our preschool for at least two days per week on enrolment, typically increasing to 3 days the year prior to starting school.  4 and 5 day positions are also available depending on the needs of families.

  • What do I need to enrol my child when I am offered a position?

    The first day of preschool is a milestone in the lives of both you and your child. New families are offered the opportunity of attending a pre-enrolment/ orientation visit with the preschool. The orientation visit will allow you to meet our dedicated educators and answer any question you may have. This is your chance to come along and spend time with your child in their new environment helping them to prepare for the preschool experience. During this time, you will be given all relevant information and documents relative to the enrolment process.

    You will be asked to complete an enrolment form and bring:  

    • An original birth certificate (to be copied)
    • Your child’s up to date Immunisation schedule from Medicare (to be copied)
    • Your child’s Child Care Benefit (CCB) eligibility letter if applicable.
    • Allergy information if applicable
    • Family court documents if applicable.
    • Annual Registration fee of $60.00 non-refundable
    • $100.00 bond which is refundable upon termination of care.  
  • How do I pay my weekly fee and what Government rebates and benefits are available to families?

    Billing is conducted automatically every Monday and fees are to be paid weekly. At enrolment we supply our bank details and further information is provided to you in our parent handbook.

    There are two main subsidies offered by the Australian Government that families may be eligible to apply for, they are the Child Care Benefit (CCB) and the Child Care Rebate (CCR).

    Parents who have their CCB reduction applied on a weekly basis will only need to pay the remaining (gap) of their weekly fee.

    Parents may claim a 50% Child Care Tax Rebate capped at $7,500 p.a. and you may elect to have this rebate paid directly to the preschool to assist in a further fee reduction. This rebate is currently not means tested.

    To be enrolled in our service all families require a customer reference number from Centrelink prior to starting preschool even if you are not claiming a reduced weekly fee.  To enquire further about a customer reference number please phone The Family Assistance Office on 136150 or follow the links on our Community Links page to the Centrelink website.

  • What do I need to bring?

    The following list of items will need to be brought to preschool by your child on every day they attend. All children will have a locker at the preschool where their belongings will be stored. Please label all your child’s belongings with his/her name.

    • school bag (large backpack preferred)
    • lunch in a box / bag
    • morning tea in a box / bag (with ice brick)
    • large water bottle OR two small water bottles (containing water only)
    • sun hat with a broad brim (all year round)
    • beanie (optional for winter)
    • At least 1 complete change of clothes including underwear and socks
    • Disposable nappies – if necessary
    • One fitted cot sheet, one flat cot sheet and a blanket for rest time - if necessary
  • How do we communicate with parents?

    Each day your child attends preschool educators like to greet and verbally discuss your child’s needs and how their day was with you. We also have a reflective journal/ communication book where you can read our programmed experiences and what we did during the day. Photos will be displayed on our screen and children’s individual learning on our computer slide show.

    Appointments can be made at a mutual time with your child’s educator if a formal interview is required.

    We welcome phone calls throughout the day if you feel the need to check on your child them, particularly after enrolment as they settle into their new environment. Where possible calls will be put through to your child's educators so you can speak directly to them. Other queries can also be made via phone calls if this is preferred.

    Most other communication is done via email. Parent newsletters, letters and reminders. Each family will have a pocket to receive fee information, flyers and brochures and other hard copy correspondence. Information can also be obtained through the parent log in section through our website.

  • What type of food can I pack my child for lunch?

    We aim to foster a high level of nutrition and follow the Good for Kids Good for Life - Munch and Move recommendations. We ask that families assist by packing highly nutritious food and not send your child to preschool with chips, lollies, sweet biscuits, chocolate and the like. We only encourage children bring water or plain milk as a drink to preschool, please no fizzy drinks, juice, cordial. We are a NUT FREE pre-school.

  • What if my child is ill or becomes unwell at school?

    It’s best for your child, other children and educators to keep your child at home if they are unwell. Please call the preschool and let them know of your child’s absence.

    If your child is prescribed antibiotics they must be taking them for a minimum of 48 hours prior to returning to preschool. If they have any gastro illnesses then they are unable to return to school until 48hours after their last tummy upset or vomit.  The preschool follows the children’s services  “Staying Healthy” guidelines, so if your child has an illness the Director will be able to explain the recommendations and exclusion periods required. Some medical conditions may need a doctor’s clearance to return to preschool.

  • What if we go on holidays?

    Any absences from preschool are still required to be paid for to maintain your child’s place in the service and is standard industry practice. The Child Care Benefit covers up to 42 unspecified absence days a year, so unless you exceed this quota you will be eligible for CCB/CCR on family holidays. Please inform educators if your child will be absent from preschool.

  • What if I want to withdraw my child or change their days of attendance?

    Should you wish to terminate your child’s placement, you will need to give TWO WEEKS WRITTEN NOTICE to the Director. Fees are still payable for this two-week period. Your child’s last booked day of care will be either the minimum of two weeks from the date of notice or any other date you nominate (which is greater than two weeks). Once your child’s last day of attendance is identified, your child must attend this day and be signed in and out of care for Child Care Benefit to be applied.   Should you not attend preschool during the two week notice period, full fees will be charged.

    Should you wish to decrease your child’s days, two weeks’ notice needs be given to the Director. If the placement you vacate can be filled immediately, fees may not be payable for that day.   If you fail to give the appropriate notice of withdrawal, fees will continue to accrue until official notice has been received by the Director. The final date for notice for any changes is 1st November each year. 

    If you wish to increase your child’s day, please contact the director and all efforts will be made to offer extra days. Your child will be placed on a priority list and as soon as any availability occurs days will be offered.

  • Can anyone collect my child from preschool?

    During enrolment, you are required to complete an enrolment form where you are able to nominate authorised persons to collect your child from preschool. Persons arriving to collect children will be asked for photo identification. These contacts can be updated at any time.
